Money for nothing (and the chips for free…)

So, I’ve been "working" a lot this weekend….

Friday I headed off to Oulton for 7pm, had my tea provided and settled to wait for anything to happen…. it didn’t :-)   So, after napping for 4 or 5 hours, I headed briefly home at 7am, quick wash, breakkie and spray overalls with deoderant… oh, and tactfully suggested that next time Aprilia asks Duke for a candle at bedtime he a) makes sure that it is in a bowl of water and b) blows it out before he goes to bed…. it saves having to extinguish the carpet at 5am…..

Saturday daytime…picked up just before 8am, back to Oulton, fed extensively by Harley who firmly beleives that a healthy diet is a biscuit in each hand    Managed to work through an entire week’s OU stuff in between watching the more interesting bits of practice and racing.  Meanwhile Duke went to Wombwell and delivered the Dragons to our friends, Aprilia terrorised Lola for the day.  Dropped off home, quick shower, spray overalls with deoderant…. head straight back to Oulton for tea and a second night of napping whilst waiting for anything to happen.

Sunday morning very early, we got a phonecall at Oulton saying that the person supposed to be standing me down was poorly, how was I fixed to cover at least part of the day.  So, off home, shower, spray overalls….. quickly made an Easter card for mum as the tatted cross I had intended to stick on a card was really not as good as it looked on the picture (didn’t have exactly the right thread and sometimes it does need to be exactly the right thread…) crawled back into overalls, then bundled Aprilia into the car (no one to mind her until lunchtime) and headed off to mum’s church to drop off card, earning millions of Brownie points and providing her with an oportunity to show off as "oh yes, my daughter does volentary ambulance work" and then back to guess where……  We had a lovely morning wandering round the paddock (or patrolling as it was rather laughingly labelled) looking at all the racing cars.  It was rather lovely actually.  Dropped her off at Lola’s and went back for an afternoon of basking in the spring sunshine and silly text messaging between me and Duke who was at Wombwell again.  Actually had to treat someone too…very attentive chap with a graze on his arm and a very low pain threshold  Home, wash, spray…..

BAck for the final night’s "work" with a final free meal and a final nap.  My wounded soldier from the day before returned for a bit more sympathy just as I was leaving and to say he was sorry I hadn’t managed to pop over to his motor home for the drink he had offered me…… Jo the paramedic came to my rescue and said that we aren’t allowed to socialise on duty…. good man Jo!  Home, wash, empty overall pockets and tell them to run off to the washing machine…..

Today?  Today I am home all day.  Not wearing overalls.  Not keeping one ear on a radio.  But not getting free food, can’t have everything I suppose ;-)
