Happy New Year Folks!

Well, we once again confirmed that our offspring should not be fed coke unless you really want her to be awake at midnight.  Thankfully we actually DID want her awake so that was okay then!  She did briefly droop but having half of the 20th Century Children’s book Treasury read to her seemed to revive her.

We were hoping for a nice leisurely wake up in the morning however our smoke alarm had other ideas and started beeping way too early for no aparent reason.  It’s one that was installed 6 months ago with a "guarenteed 5 year battery" by some rather lovely Firemen who were remarkably polite about the fire risk potential of the clutter in our home.  Sigh, we still have no idea what it wrong, nor can we simply swap the battery out like we could on the old ones and so we no longer have a smoke alarm at the top of the stairs until I can find where we put the old ones that were taken down and put one of those back up.

Today I declared war on the various tents dotted round the house, there was the small dodgy Argos tent which was draped over the banister rail some months ago (it was wet, it was draped to dry it and then of course the back garden never dried out enough to roll the wretched thing up) and then there was the Outwell which we had to "test pitch" when we bought it even though the garden was boggy so that had been draped to dry too….. and actually, I needed to roll the "kids bedroom" up with the Outwell too so it’s all together (and less likely to get forgotten)

Meanwhile, Duke decided that "if I’m going to get a bike I need to make space for it in the garage" which was a somewhat startling declaration although I was chavalier enough  not to challenge the statement if it was going to stop him from de-junking the garage!

Aprilia entertained herself by curling up in her pop up tent in her bedroom watching Walace and Gromit on IPlayer.  Once I’d finished tent wrastling I went up to see how she was doing and she *insisted* that I lay down next to her, under a blanket, with a nice soft feather pillow and some cuddly toys, then had the cheek to complain when I started snoring!  Kids today!

Tomorrow, aparently, we are making mayonaise.  I’m not sure if I’m supposed to use the food processor (we only have a blade for it, no fancy attachments) or the Kenwood which has a nice whisk but is a bit big really (I have vague memories of someone telling me you need a really small container for best results)  Ah well, I’m going to use veg oil not olive oil for our first attempts so it won’t cost me quite so much if it all goes wrong.
