Man Flu

Somehow this post didn’t get published the other day but seeing as I wrote it, and it’s only a few days out of date, I shall publish it now!

Duke has caught what I had last week.  It’s one of those really stinking colds that comes complete with a chesty cough and a huge dose of limp, lifelessness.  Now, last year, Aprilia and I quite genuinely had the flu.  We ached, we could barely move, we were proper poorly for nearly 2 weeks but Duke dismissed it as just a bad cold and we would know about it if wsa really flu…… This latest lurgy, much, much milder than the symptoms us girls had last year and basically over with in a week though has been declared flu, not man flu because I suffered with it too, but real proper flu.  Hmmmmm.

Anyway, life it ticking by slowly here.  We made mince pies the other day as per the Hairy Baker recipe and I proved once again taht I really can’t make pastry.  It’s better now it’s had a day or so to soften but it’s really not waht it should be!  I’m wondering if it’s down to something as daft as I use SmartPrice flour rather than the more expensive brands?  I know using posher bread flour make a whole heap of difference to my bread but the SmartPrice stuff makes perfectly acceptable cake so it should be okay?  I dunno, the taste of hte finished produce is down right awsome, even the smell when you open the lid off the tin is heavenly, shame the texture went wrong!  We made cheese straws too and they lasted just under 24 hours so I shall call them a success too and definitely make them again!

I spent this morning sorting out the next SonLight core as we are only a few weeks off finally finishing Core 1.  Having not bothered with the "language arts" at all for the whole of the year, Aprilia noticed them this week and wants to do it.  Of course, having not found it useful with Core 1, I didn’t buy the LA componant of Core 2, which is fine as I have the whole of the Core 1 LA to go at which will keep us out of mischeif for ages unless of course she suddenly surges forward and "catches up" with what she should be reading now at which point I’ll need to get $33 worth of guide and activity sheets to go with the readers for the next core which will cost $35 to ship    Which of course serves me right for not getting it when I got the rest of Core 2 doesn’t it…..

Tonight i’m out with Red Cross at the Christmas meal.  I’m fetching out the required (not very) little black number which comes out every year at Christmas and hoping I can keep it going for a few more as it’s the only posh frock I own and I’ve yet to spot anything I like enough to replace it with…..  One day fat will come back into fashion and I’ll be able to stock up!  NOtice I don’t even pretend taht one day I will be fashionably slim…… Not with all these wonderful recipes I keep trying I won’t!

if you are like me and have left Christmas prep a bit late…
