The cat wouldn’t let me blog last night!
and I really couldn’t be bothered repeatedly dumping her off the keyboard so I gave up
Yesterday I made flapjacks, Aprilia made and decorated muffins and then we delivered them to mum whose birthday it is today. Got there to be greeted with "don’t take your coat off" which startled me a little! Actually it was only meant to have been directed at Aprilia as mum whisked her off to the hairdressers for a quick trim that turned into a full wash, cut and style so I have a very smart looking young lady now! The new hairdresser is much better than the one she started refusing to go to - does a better job, treats children and older people as human beings and only charged mum a fiver for the full works (old one charged the earth to do a bad job, ignore Aprilia and cut dad dead every time he tried to strike up a conversation but gossiped with the customer in the next chair incessantly whilst she got glammed up for her night on the town)
I was supposed to be at a Guider meeting last night but Duke was offered a shift with Red Cross and as it was the Christmas Guider meeting it was in a pub, one that doesn’t allow children in, so I didn’t go. Instead I settled down with the book basket and read to Aprilia. Full chapters of Hobbit, The Dark is Rising, Wheel on the School and Holly the ***** Christmas fairy plus 2 sections of Jothams Journey (we only got the book yesterday after me totally forgetting what it was called until Jan blogged it) later I realised it was 10pm! Which would explain why my eyes were going all squiffy really. And then the cat refused to let me blog so I curled up with an audio book instead.
Today I am planning on trying again to install an add on to Open Office on my laptop that means I can convert text into "Daisy" format so my player can read it out to me. I prefer real human voices but as LibraVox doesn’t have all the books for my next course I need to have a back up plan. The RNIB are getting shirty about people who aren’t actually blind using their services (well, making them jump through hoops that I don’t really feel inclined to jump through at any rate) and as it’s the RNIB that the OU get to produce all their stuff for "text disabled" as well as bling peeps I may well need the facility to convert books fairly shortly. First though, I am planning on uninstalling AVG so taht the bloody machine will work at a sensible speed. I can’t help feeling that the effects of a virus and that of AVG are pretty damned similar - the machine becomes unusable, so, erm, should it quarentine itself?
