That’s Not My Cow!

Duke has bought said Terry Pratchet short story/picture book.  It’s very good!

We also now have (at Aprilia’s request) some more puzzle books, this time some Bond Verbal and Nonverbal Reasoning books.   She was in serious need of something other than literacy (which is still too hard for her to enjoy) and number work (which is mainly very easy but she likes to go slow and steady with) to stretch that little brain of hers and reasoning/logic seemed a sensible place to go as the non verbal stuff doesn’t require any word ability at all and the verbal stuff can be done by me reading it out because it’s not testing her literacy but her understanding of words which I think she can probably develop more easily than the mechanics of actually reading.

Add that to me installing Open Office on her PC yesterday and we have plenty of stuff now for her to sink teeth into without me labouring the phonics.  I’m hoping to get her pretty PC savvy as I suspect that typing is always going to be a more acceptable way of recording stuff for her than writing.  Which is fine, because really typing is a more generally useful skill in most jobs anyway.  But we are still going to do a bit of handwriting because really, you can’t get away with not being able to wield a pen at some point!

We had a bit of a different sort of Kung Fu session this morning, there were only 3 kids so they stayed with us for hte session and trained with the adults.  Have you any idea how hard it is to throw a punch at your own child’s chin?????  Even knowing that a) you are training at half speed, and b) she IS going to move out of the way!  She is unspeakably cute in the suit, and the instructor has promised to look for a white sash to go round it until she gets her yellow one next month and generally made a big fuss of her for looking so good in it.  I may ahve mentioned before that our instructor is really fab, if not I’ll say it now….. HE’S FAB!  He is very much of the school that it’s not about being perfect or even getting it "right" it’s about joining in and trying your very best and not giving up.  You know, I could have done with a few like him when I was small!
