China Town

Well, it was a little dissapointing but still, we’ve been to China Town and she was utterly awestruck by the Gate which is every bit as huge and imposing as I remember it!  Sadly the place seems now to be just a mass of various restaurants with one or two food shops thrown in and very little of anything else.  We did find a very lovely crafts shop though and could quite happily ahve spent a fortune in there but I restrained myself to a dress for Aprilia which is gorgeous, hand made and really suits her although I have had to take out 2 of the shaping darts because she doesn’t go in and out at the right place so it didn’t hang quie right on her back.  It’s a little more than I’d planned on paying but then it’s so rare I ever buy her anything nice, it’s usually whatever it cheap at George, so it will be nice to see her in something a bit better now and then!

We had intended to go to a martial arts shop I remembered being there from years ago so that we could try on kung fu suits to see what size we needed when the time comes for buying.  Sadly it’s now a "trendy wine bar" and there’s nothing else like it in the area.  Shame really.  So I e-mailed an on-line supplier asking for widths to go with the lengths of their suits to be told that they don’t have that information (what?  you mean you don’t have a ruler handy to measure accross a suit sir?  You are a shop as well as an on-line supplier, surely you have the facility to open a packet and check?) but it’s okay because the trousers are very generous and the tops are cut to fit men so are qutie roomy.  Obviously this gent has no idea of the differences in the shapes of men and women does he…… I’ve yet to see a 5′ tall bloke with a chest broad enough to fit any teeshirt I would wear and when I bought my judo gi years ago I had to get one for a taller person and then turn it up at the leg so taht I could actually move in it….. His suggestion was to buy a 1.5m size one which should fit me and both of us try it, if it’s right for me then the size smaller will be right for her so then order one for her and if it’s right for her then the next size up will be right for me, either way instead of ordering once and paying one lot of posting I’m ordering twice, paying twice the postage and possibly still not getting a good fit depending on exactly how generous or not these things are. Sigh, really must start picking hobbies taht don’t include clothes that are just never going to fit!  Or just buy one, random size and use squared pattern paper to scale it up and make my own of course…….
