muddle earth
We really enjoyed watching the Jackonory version of Muddle Earth the other year and have been meaning to bully the library to buy the book for ages (they don’t have it - shocking!) but now we have bought it and are 6 chapters in I have to say it’s nothing like the adaptation, it’s way, way better
The language is really good, not dumbed down as I sort of suspect the BBC version was. The humour ranges from down right slapstick to really subtle that only someone who had read a bit of Tolkein here and there would spot, the illustrations are fab, the characters are daft but still somehow "real" rather than the 2D type of charicatures you sometimes find. I’m loving it, Aprilia is loving it and my only complaint is that it’s making bedtime stories last even longer than normal cos I want to carry on reading!
