On turning 7

Seven seems to have been a fairly momentous thing for my baby.  Either that or flying up from Rainbows to being a Big Girl at Brownies has had a more profound effect that I’d anticipated.  But either way, she didn’t fancy being trailed round Asda today (who can blame her really?) and suggested that she stay at home whilst I went on my own.  Sharp intake of breath!  Bear in mind that less than a month ago I walked up to the post box 2 minutes away and she was hanging over the garden fence looking stressed waiting for me and didn’t let me out of her sight again for hours (and yes, I did tell her where I was going, I didn’t just wander off honest!)  But anyway.  I left her with my mobile number and a quick tutorial on how to use the home phone, what to do in an emgency, what to do if there was a fire, what to do if a stranger came to the door…. well, you get the picture!  I fully expected to get to teh end of the road and have a phone call for me to come back.  I got the shopping done in record time, repeatedly checking I still had signal on the phone and hadn’t missed her call.  I got home to find her reclining in the living room watching a DVD    So that’s that then, I get to do the shopping on my own from now on!

Tonight was her first Brownies, she just looked so gorgeous in her new clothes!  Was lovely to see her fall back in with friends who have left Rainbows before her.  Was also lovely to see one of the bigger girls helping her write stuff not by doing the "let me do it for you" routine that drives her totally nuts but by giving her a sample to copy.  Aparently Brown Owl has wised up a couple of the bigger ones to the fact that Aprilia doesn’t read and write too happily yet and they have been asked to quietly help her out.  There was also a "blast from the past" at the end of the meeting, they still use the same song to end the meetings now that they did when I was a Brownie and I was rather amazed to realise I still remembered it!

Next week I am sort of planning to get back to "normal" and crack on with Sonlight and puzzles since we have done non this week!  I do love the flexibility of home ed you know, who cares if my "terms" are nothing like schools, it suits us just fine!
