A magical sort of day?
We got off to a slow start today, no one was awake before 9:30 which left me feeling sort of groggy from so much sleep! We had pancake breakfast and then Duke got a call so hoofed off to work and Aprilia begged me to find from anywhere a new copy of HP5 as our hard copy has got lost (or loaned out and not returned, not sure which) and the e-copy is faulty as Duke found out last night when he put her to bed. Now let me just point out that as we do own a hard copy I don’t feel too bad about also having a (non-legal) e-book of the same item, we’ve bought a copy, paid for it but choose to enjoy it in a different format, one that is much, much easier for me to deal with as I can adjust the line spacing, font style and size etc to remove the major stresses in reading for me. If JK Rowlings would deign to allow real, genuine, decent quality copies of her work to be sold as e-books I would buy a full set, gladly. But she won’t. If it were a shorter book (and I could have found our copy) I would simply process it through my book scanner into Read and Write Gold and transform it into an e-book for myself. But anyway, rant over (honest!) I phoned Lola hoping that she had a copy and yes, she did which she fetched round to us, cast aspertions about the state of our house suggesting that the book may just be hidden in a corner (it’s not, we’ve looked in every dark corner and the mess gets turned over regularly enough to know it’s not burried) and left. Sometimes she’s so nice, so tactful…. today wsa not one of those days…..
The rest of the day was spent with me reading a chapter, having a rest to let my eyes settle down, reading another chapter….. I’ve jsut read her chapter 10 and I’m giving serious consideration to buying the audio book!!!!
Tomorrow "school" starts again. Amongst the normal stuff I’m also hoping to play Quick Chess with her, do a bit of music and see if I can’t explain "pictographs" (or bar charts as they were called when I was at school) to her better than the Wizard Whimstaff book. I have an idea that involves sorting my yarn stash into columns by either yarn type or colour that would not only give her a very visual explanation but would also help me sort out my stash
It’s the first maths thing she has encountered that she didn’t "get" right away and it’s bothered her. I know we could wait until it comes up in Miquon but she’s all fired up for doing the SATs thing and showign Granny that she doesn’t need to go to school becauase she is capable of doing everything at home so I need to settle it for her really.
Which brings me onto yesterday, which was a significantly less magical day…. I shall say little other than we went out for a belated Christmas meal with my parents and my mother did that thing where no matter waht I said she twisted it round to my detriment like "waht will you do about GCSE exams?" I gave her several possible options ranging from not doing them and going straight to 6th form college, doing them as external candidate/night school, not doing them but doing level 1 OU courses…… to which she said "but there may be be GCSEs by then, what will you do then?" Sigh, she’s 6, we have 10 years to sort that out…. but it upsets Aprilia and heaps irrelevent worry on her little head and that makes me SO CROSS!!!!
But anyway. Let tomorrow worry about itself and all that…. I have chocolate waiting for me downstairs and I can’t start the new year weight loss until it’s all gone now can i

I’m taking that approach to fitness as well, no point in starting until the chocolate is gone…

Bar charts have solid bars, as opposed to pictographs which have the little piccies/icons
