Am contemplating the same issue (sleep). Both our girls go upstairs at the same time (around 7-7.30pm) and then spend a ridiculously long time spinning out the pyjama-ing and tooth-brushing stages, and then (if DH isn't home) I do stories/feeding for Shannon and then stories for Jade and it's usually 9pm before I leave Jade listening to a relaxation cd and playing or reading. She's usually asleep by 10pm but not always ... but still up early, and I read some reviews on Amazon.com of the book "sleepless in America" which leads me to believe she may be sleep-deprived and in need of a better earlier sleep time. So haven't got much further with it than that but planning on doing something about it!

we've a similar routine to the beans, except the expected time for them to be having stories is 7.30. This often rolls around to about 8, and then I go and tell them to turn the light off sometime around 8.30 (school night) or 9 otherwise. They usually go to sleep fairly quickly after that.

The grownups in this house are rubbish at sensible sleeping, so I wouldn't expect the kids to be any good left to their own devices.

SB's general bedtime is 8, with a story or two in bed. She reads and then listens to story CD's until she goes to sleep. She can sit reading until way late - so do ask her to stop if she's still at it too long , as otherwise she gets tired the next day
