feeling a little calmer now

Duke thinks it may be possible to replace the thermostat and that doing that would probably cure the problem so taht’s £50ish instead of £250ish for a new cooker.  Either way you still need a CORGI to fit it, why you need some nasty yappy dog to fit gas things I’ll never know but that’s the law you know….

Duke phoned his mum this morning to ask if she could cook the pork I’d defrosted.  She did and also fed us roast beef dinner whilst we were there meaning that we have cold cuts of pork for tea tomorrow and probably some other pork based meal for Tuesday!  So that diverted Duke from his other plan of meal out (hate Sunday meals out, too noisy!!  Too busy!  Service goes all to pot and damn it if I’m paying that much money I want to enjoy it!!)

I have several suggestions for hob based meals which I will be working my way through.  Really we use the oven way too much, it’s daft to heat up a whole oven for one midweek meal really, I don’t do the war-time thing of totally filling it and making best use of it, I should put a bit more thought into that sort of thing once I have a working oven again really.  It would possibly help if I hadn’t married an obligate carnivore you know!

Duke had his meeting with the Red Cross person this afternoon who says that he is working just this side of legal with doing 2 jobs due to the fact that the law applies to the company not the person so as long as no one company employs him for more than 60 hours a week there is no Working Time Directive issue.  Would still be nice if he could earn a living wage off one job mind you.  He’s still looking for something better but his educational record (or lack of it) and having been in casual work doing everything and anything goes against him.  It does make me feel bad about not working really.  I was always the main wage earner when we were a couple and my redundancy money didn’t go that far really (well, okay it’s gone miles and miles…. it paid for my little car!)  Had we gone the more conventional route I could be back in full time employment by now or at least part time, either way it would take the pressure off Duke.  Duke is very certain though that my place is at home with Aprilia for the foreseeable future which is nice to know but doens’t make me feel any better when I’m buying Sonlight etc. in order to live out the lifestyle we ahve chosen.  the sock knitting was a great idea but you can’t charge *that* much for a pair of hand knitted socks, they take a couple of hours to do so even if I charged minimum wage they would still be expensive compared to what you can buy machine knitted ones for.  I had intended to run up a stack of welly socks before winter but suddenly it’s mid-November and I haven’t done.  Maybe I should set a target for this time next year to have enough pairs to sell and pay for Christmas!

Anyway, I’m rambling (nowt new there then!)

Aprilia has been floppy all day and is still fighting off the sniffles just about.

Whiskers has perked up after looking very second hand and refusing to eat yesterday.  No idea what was up although I suppose it could have been reaction to her jabs, or it could have been that slug she scoffed before I could get it off her (where’s taht barfing emoticon when you need him???)

I keep falling asleep every time I get settled.  Whiskers thinks this is a good thing as then she can sleep on top of me, it appears I am definitely "mummy", I could do without her kneading my squishy bits for 5 minutes before settling down to sleep on them though emoticon   I made an attempt at some drawing this morning but couldn’t concentrate.  I’d really like to have worked through the book before I start my next course at the end of January.  I need to get enough sleep to be awake enough to do it though and this cold seems to require at least 23 hours sleep a night emoticon  How those of you with multiple, more demanding offspring do anything I will never know!  And speaking of sleep, I’m going to have a long luxurious soak and an early night.  Any comments about being a lightwieight will be sumarily ignored ;-)

now I really do want to throw stuff….

you know the other day (well a full 7 days ago anyway) I appealed publically to my household appliances to stop breaking?  Well the ************ cooker has now decided to throw its hand in.  Hob works fine, grill works fine, igniter still throws out a half hearted spark (which is all it’s ever done) but oven doesn’t get hot, not even a bit.  Would be okay to incubate yogurt or maybe proove bread in but not to cook the Sunday Roast that was all ready to go in when I discovered this issue.

So, I am throwing myself on the mercy of the Cosmic Supply Company (aka Freecycle) and hoping for a replacement as I really, really, REALLY don’t want to have to buy a new one!

Oh, and any recipes for meals that don’t need the oven gratefully accepted.  We do have a microwave but I’ve never tried cooking properly in it….
