expensive specs
I went to collect my new (expertly, precision tinted) specs yesterday. The original frames I’d chosen wern’t right for the lens type (too thick or too thin or something) so I needed to pick out some new frames which they said they would glaze right away for me to save me going back again (it’s an hour each way plus parking money so not a trip you would want to do regularly if you didn’t need to really!)
Of course, that left me with half an hour whilst they did the job to wander round…. which is why we are now the proud owners of Globe Trotting which has sparked much discussion on not only the continents as marked on the mat (which are not what you would call acurately drawn…) but also countries and features within those continents along with covert reading, left and right practice (and oh boy do we both need lots of that!) not to mention balance, contortion and developing the ability to laugh at oneself! Not bad for £6!! Then we wandered into the fabric shop and came out wth fabric for 2 dresses and a pattern plus fabric for a shorts and top set.
Mind you, the new frames wer much cheaper than the old ones so I got a cheque back for £20 which offset the spend!!!
Anyway, new specs are odd. Fantastic but odd. They are much, much darker than i had expected - I could walk away from the PC safely in the other pair without wondering who had turned the lights out bu tthese? I can barely see across the room! They really do filter out a lot of colour (which obviously is the idea) and all of the glare and I have to say that I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at paying out for another set now I can see the difference betwen these and what i had made up for me by a normal optician (who just replicated a colour I said was about right with a quick colour-wash over the lens) Where the other set kept stuff reasonably still for a reasonable time, these have stopped a level of text vibration that I was unaware of, making everything so crisp and cutting out eye strain totally. Now I just need a pair of normal (ie cheap, off the shelf for £2) readers for doing fine detail crafts as I can’t see colours well enough with these and I’m all set!
