T-Bird Anni Rides Again

October 4, 2007

busy busy!

there’s a lot going on just now and I don’t seem to have a lot of energy left by this time of day to get my head round it sufficiently to blog it.

There’s Whiskers the foster-kitten who may or may not be staying.  Aprilia has got nervous of her since she accidentally clawed her (she was pouncing on a toy and Aprilia’s leg just happened to be in the way) and she’s now wondering if she really wants a kitten after all.  I may be very slightly alergic to her after all as I’m a bit sniffly but nothing dramatic, I’m hoping it’s a cold but it does seem to be worse when she’s on my knee.  Duke is totally in love with her!

There’s Rainbows which takes up a lot more than the hour it runs and a bit in between mainly because ther is the Leadership qualification to do and the huge mess of stuff I was given to sort out.  I went to the Guidign Shop this evening to grab some uniform for me, badges for the girls, an activity file taht allows them to work towards som different badges (Rainbow badges are few and far between, unlike Beavers whcih has loads to choose from - I’m jealous Deb!!) and the handbook and manual that every unit is suposed to have and never got given to me.  That’s a lot of reading I’ve got to attack from this time next week!

Then of course there’s the exam which is next Thursday afternoon.  Childcare is now sorted (eventually)  Revision is happening (slowly) All I really need to deal with now is tidying up the dining room, finding an extention cable so I have power and moving the PC down there.  And filling a large jug wtih Rescue Remedy and water, and I don’t care if it is snake oil, it’s always worked and I’m all for psychological/placebo stuff if it works!  Oh, and I need to figure out whta to do with Whiskers so she doesn’t try to kill my hair and run off with it whilst I’m working (I think she thinks it’s a guinea pig or something, she keeps pouncing on it an trying to drag it off to munch on - it smarts a bit!)

And I keep slipping in a bit of educating here and there too.  Sonlight is’t for everyone but it is good for us.  Instructor Guides may be swear words to some of you but actually here they are working now that I have a system to keep them under control and am not romping on with some bits and lagging with other has we hvae before - this year it seems to be the right balance so far although, of course, I’ve swapped and changed some books to suit us better.   Miquon is hitting the spot but I do yearn for a bit of colour and some pictures!  She does seem to like it though, I wonder if the pictures distract her and make it harder for her to hold things in her head.  We abandoned  MEP as it just didn’t seem to hit the spot for us.  Which of course means we will end up back with in by Christmas doesn’t it ;-)   MFW phonics is working, it’s slow, thorough and quite plain and would send probably most of you screaming off into the distance but she loves the idea that she gets to be a big girl and read out of a Bible reader rather than reading what Peter and Jane (or Biff and Kipper…) are doing.

and when you look at it like that, it’s not terribly surprising that I’m ready for bed early adn not terribly rational at snorty snoring husband (who needs to go and get refered to a sleep clinic and get the magic machine so I can get a decent night….)  On which note I’m going to end cos he’s out so I have a chance of getting to sleep before he gets home!!!

Homer Price
Day by Day
Flower Fairies
Houses and Homes (only somewhat sweeping in their statements this week)
Starting Point Science (flowers and seeds)
Roman Mystery - Pirates of Pompeii

MFW phonics (which magically turned up after a week’s absence when I muttered about getting a much hated alternative back out of the cupboard…)
Miquon - the start of multiplication

Bits of paired reading and solo reading, waiting for the next leap forwards in confidence now.

Lots of playing with the kitten and learning that you don’t abandon other pets when a new one arrives.
