T-Bird Anni Rides Again

a question for those who know these things

Having now taken industrial sized doses of Folic Acid for nearly 4 years now "just in case", can I assume I’m fully saturated and just rely on what you get in a normal multi vit plus a general B vit sup (which I take anyway to try to keep awake all day) or do I really need to keep going with the folate?  Seems sort of futile in a "hey, it could be this month, well, not really but you never know" sort of way.

  1. afaik if you’re reasonably good at eating veg, perhaps a fortified cereal, as well as a multivitamin supplement, you’re unlikely to be folate deficient.

  2. ah, but… if you really want to be sure, you need to take it. I have taken 9 years worth! but no-one is desp sure of the actual required dose. prob multivits and b12 is enough, but no evidence to that effect. joanna is the one that knows all this the best though

  4. Depends on the amounts you’re taking in the other supplements. I took a 4mg (not mcg!!) supplement because of the risk of heart defects (was recommended to by my consultant) - no evidence, though, just educated guesswork. Taking extra doesn’t do any harm, except to the pocket. Tell me exactly how much is in the other ones, and how much the industrial sized one is!!

  5. Thaks, I’ll just carry on shall I? they arent expensive but it’s like looking at a shelf in a health food shop when you look at the row of stuff I take every morning!
