The age of the train?

anyone remember those adverts telling us how cheap and wonderful train travel is?  I’ve just looked how much it would cost for me and Aprilia to go to the not back to school picnic by train thinking it may be a viable option rather than me doing too mcuh driving and ending up in a foul mood.  it would cost  just under £80 for the return fare for the pair of us, with 2 changes and then either bus or tube for the last bit and not getting us there until closer to 2pm (any earlier means starting the journey at peak times and doubles the fare)  it wouldn’t cost anything like that in fuel for me to go down in the comfort and convenience of my own car (assuming you can park within a 100 mile radius for less than £20 an hour…)

hmph, I shall be there in spirit folks!  Whilst sitting on a rug in our back yard (or living room floor if it rains)  Hope it’s good for you.

First day back

A busy but good start back today.  I sneakily imposed a new routine on her and I hope I can carry on imposing it on both of us as I think we do need it.  So, up, dressed and breakfast at the table followed by teeth and face washing (which have a nasty habit of being missed in teh mornings when we eat in the living room) then did Sonlight (can I shorten taht down to SL please?) and other bits before the TV was woken up.  I was supposed to be reading Charlotte’s Web to her but she didn’t want that one as she knows that Charlotte dies adn didn’t want a story with a sad bit in.  So she dug out Lion Witch Wardrobe (yet again!) to replace it.  I dunno, didn’t even get to the end of day 1 without deviating from the program emoticon

That brought 11am when the lady who is helping me train to be a Rainbow leader came round to plan the next term with me.  Aprilia had some great ideas for games and so on and I impressed her by knowing wehre to get print out craft type stuff on the Net (see?  this home ed has other uses after all!)   Aprilia came over all autonomous and sat doing paper dolls (Making Friends ones) whilst we talked which got impressed looks of our visitor

Did the weekly shop this afternoon then Duke lit the chimenea when he got in, teaching Aprilia all about laying fires and how you don’t actually need firelighters to get it going (but they do help you know!)  Once outside she wasn’t going to come back in which was fine by me.  So she uprooted one of the runner bean plants that was lookign worse for wear and happily "shelled" all the bean pods that are now too ripe to be nice to eat but have got nice shiney red beans inside!

Whilst she was happily playing with the bean pods I read a couple of chapters of the second Roman Mystery book to her.  She likes these books, and so do I.  She may even learn a few bits about Rome by accident if I’m not careful ;-)   Not sure we are supposed to cover that at Key Stage 1 are we :-P    I like Garden Ed, it’s somehow more relaxing than Living Room Ed!
