yuck, yuck and thrice I say yuck!
Today I have cleaned the tent. Now, I know, I should have done this weeks ago but somehow it escaped me that just because we had taken it down when the FLY SHEET was dry that just maybe the ground sheets wouldn’t fare so well (doh!) Thankfully Jax mentioned having cleaned hers adn how vileit was which made me think I’d better check mine!
After Daddy Bean mentioned that the groundsheet on their Vango was delaminating I gave ours a good dose of looking at and yes, some of ours is too - in the entrance area where there is obviously more traffic so more wear and tear there is a patch about 12" round where there are little spots where the laminate is coming away from the woven core. Hmph! It’s only in it’s 4th year, aren’t these things meant to last longer than that? Well, okay, I suppose 4 years, averaging 2 uses a year with all hte abuse that comes with small child and clumsy adults one worn patch and 2 eyelets ripped out (during the storm at Kessie) isn’t too bad.
The pods are looking worse for wear too - a lot of the elastics need replacing (down to abuse again - you aren’t meant to thread rope lights through them!) and there’s some milldew on the sides of the pods which I may have to deal with, damp garages are not ideal for tent storage at the best of times, but I found a dead banana skin in the pocket of one of hte pods when we pitched at Kessingland which had fed the **** bugs a gourmet feast. Don’t even know how it got in there - we don’t eat in the pods as a rule…. I’m not sure that the milldew can eat that sort of nylon but it might I suppose. As long as I only have to patch the sides and back I’m fine, if I have to do anything with the bits with the zips then we are buying a new tent!!
Other than that, Aprilia has been practicing signing and is excited at the thought that I may do it with the Rainbows. She had bright ideas of them fingerspelling all sorts until I pointed out that reading and writing isn’t a required skill in Rainbows!!! I recon we could manage a few signs though - hello, thank you, please etc. She’s also decided that her party trick for hte next cabaret is to sing and sign the ABC song - you have been warned…..
Also baked flapjacks for the weekend, did them today so they have time to soften up as my recipe tends to make really good crunchy flapjacks which could cause broken teeth if not given a day or two to mature! May also do chocolate oaties OR squidgy chocolate cake (as brought to the Castle party - hte one that was more squidge than cake…) depending on how the mood takes me tomorrow.
The Great Bedroom Tidy-up is progressing although I got distracted by a kitchen unit ambushing me and needing a serious sort out to get everything back in today. I have tomorrow morning, Friday morning and the beginning of next week….. surely I can’t take that long????
