Supersize Me?

Some Mummy-Daughter bonding seemed in order today so we toddled off to the cinema for Shrek the Third :-)   Now, obviously, part of the whole cinema experience is the popcorn and I’m rather partial to it myself so we agreed that I’d buy us both a drink adn we would share a "regular" sized box of popcorn.  Now last time I went to the cinema (a different one to be fair) the regular sized popcorn came in a box about the size of a pint pot.  It was sufficient for 2 people to graze throughout the film, the drink came in a cup the size of the ones you get at McD’s and, again, was more than sufficient.  Things have changed since then….

The Phrase "Supersize me" would not be inappropriate.  The drink was just under 2 pints and the popcorn could hvae fed a family of 4 with left overs.  I took a picture of hte containers to make my point but I’m being completely unsucessful at uploading it so you’ll just have to believe me on this one!  It was just ridiculous and made getting up the stairs to our seats ***** difficult.  Ah well.  Next time I’ll ask for children’s portions!

The film, incidentally, was great.  Very funny and lots of jokes sailing right over her head but made me giggle quietly.  She wants to go again with Daddy!

After that we wandered round the shops a bit and fell into the toy shop.  I braced myself for the "I wants" but you know what she wanted?  A hula hoop.  Nothing more than that.  I felt I could oblige that one!  She has now mastered the art of skipping with it and can hula it for about 5 microseconds which is about 4 more than I can do!

That brought lunchtime so we decided to indulge…. Old Orleans!  She had a smoothie made fresh for her which put her into a dream-like state  and a very good meal then helped me polish off my pud which was a confection of strawberry icecream (with real bits in it!), fresh fruit, Maltesers, marshmallows, brownie and chili chocolate sauce.  I didn’t think she’d like the sauce but she did so I let her share!

She played in the back garden til it got dark this evening with her new hula hoop - I think she would have taken it to bed with her given the chance!

first of all some thanks…

To everyone who has so eloquently assassinated the character of my mother…. thank you emoticon

Jo - blimey, didn’t know you had a violent cell in your body dearest!  I did think about insisted Aprilia was picked up but I thought that she would then have to suffer the backlash all day if I did that and to be honest if she doesn’t want to "grace" my home with her august presence then fine.  Last time she came Aprilia was a few weeks old, not sleeping etc and her opening gambit was to run her hand on the door lintels and tut.  I can live without that.

Nic - yes, it did seem rather ironic giving her a sugar donut after telling her she was fat!  Then, aparently, later she tried to tell Aprilia that fruit juice was bad for her because of the sugar in it emoticon   Aprilia and I discussed that particular one today in the context of 5 a day balanced with too much of a good thing can be not so good

Tim - ooh you are evil…. maybe I can roll her round in the dirt a bit next time…..  And yes, you are right, I’d rather have her cuddly, happy and healthy than skinny and sad any day.  I was thinking about it all last night and it struck me that I was on my first diet at about her age or perhaps just a year or two older.  A doctor had made some comment about my size when I went to have a veruca frozen off so sent us off to see the dietician.  She gave my mum a wodge of papers about healthy eating etc so she went out and bought "slender" stuff (the fore runner of the delightful SlimFast) adn I was on 2 milkshakes a day plus whatever the rest of the family were eating at tea time (fish fingers adn chips etc  ) until she got bored with it.  Aparently the healthy eating was "too much messing about"

Jax - PARDON???  Big is SO not big!!!!  she’s all tall and slender for goodness sake!  Neither is Small for that matter.
