big wild read moan
We forgot to go to the libary last week so had 2 week’s worth of books to take back for hte Big Wild Read today. The woman stamped up the card for all 4 books (hey, it’s only Oxford Reading Tree ones so she can read 2 in a week without wailing!) adn dished out 4 sets of stickers. No magnets, not fancy bookmarks or all the other cool stuff everyone else seems to be getting, just stickers. Thankfully she was impressed enough by scratch and sniff stickers to not notice that you usually get a few more bits than that and I was busy thinking about what else we needed to do in town so wasn’t paying attention, in fact in only dawned on me when Kirsty blogged about M getting stuff! Grrrr!

I don’t think she’s missing much. We couldn’t remember what the 2nd week goody was (apart from stickers) and I think mine were a bit dissapointed in the fridge magnet! Although luckily sticks on new metal beds so ok. Now the ‘tificate and medal that was promised for the last lot better be good!
At least you have ORT books in, we have nowt like that!

Hmm wonder how that works then. We’ve got stickers for 2, 4, 6 books, with a wallet and pack of seeds after 2, a book mark after 4 and a completion medal after 6. Activity sheets at all levels a free prize draw for a treasure hunt round the library and a free dvd rental voucher when you finish. I think there must be a bare minimum which comes from BWR and the rest is local authority specific as I know our children’s librarian had a big role in what we are doing extra.

We get a big presentation evening with the local mayor usually in mid September for medals and certs. We got the seeds as we signed up although I’m not sure of hte benefit of dishing out seeds in summer when most stuff wouldn’t be doing much til next spring surely? Also got 2 colouring sheets at sign up.
Kirsty - ours is a huge library and has a “Early Reader” section with all the ORT books plus a few other controled vocab type reading schemes and every Dr Seuss title going. Oh and sofas in the kids area for tired mummies to slump on!
