serves me right
I was trying to join another blog ring and succeded instead in killing my blog. When I paste the ring code into the blog it says this
Smarty syntax error
File index.html, line 50: syntax error:
unrecognized tag: padding: 5px; border: solid 1px #0000aa;
Which isn’t all that helpful really!
If I drop the code into the HTML bit of the "write a post" then it works
See? but not in the Files bit where I have successfully in the past deposited the Early Years ring code and my beloved pets (who have vanished, sob!)

Which means absolutely nothing to me BUT I’m sure that all the stuff I’ve loaded up in the past has had a <– BEGIN –> and <–END–> bit with them? Obviously I can’t look now cos they ahve all gone but I’m sure I noticed them before?
What a nightmare!! My code looked just like that and I just copied and paste… Hope someone can help.

It seems to me that Smarty is built into your blog and is trying to parse the code.
Where the error occurs
This is not valid (x)html. The curly brackets do not belong and may be causing the problem.
Try this instead (no curly brackets)

Darn, your comments thing stripped out the sense of my comment. Try this:
Replace:
<div style="{padding: 5px; border: solid 1px #0000aa;}">
With
<div style="padding: 5px; border: solid 1px #0000aa;">
It stripped out the code snippets
