When I wasn’t killing my blog…
I did quite a bit else today too!
Glossing over my normal alarm call at just past 8AM of the neighbour screaming at her 8,7 adn 4 year olds to get into the Bl***y car for F***s sake today got off to a gentle start! There was a bit of TV, a bit of bouncing round like a loonatic (well, okay only Aprilia did that bit, I’m not built for bouncing you understand!) whilst I read to her and a bit of excitement when a digger just like Scoop squoze down the alleyway between our house adn the next one to dig out an illegally erected fence. The fence has been blocking the alleyway for the past year and was put up by the woman directly behind us to stop teens wandering past at all hours and incidentally to add almost a third again onto the width of her property as she then ripped out her boundry fence on that side, ripped out all the shrubbery causing her neighbours fence to fall down (the roots went under it I suppose) put big expensive looking gates at the other end of the alley adn dug up most of the tarmac. I did wonder what was going on the other week when suddenly she had workmen in replacing her existing fencing…. must be costing her a fortune between what she paid out for the digger last year to wreck everything,a fence post set down into the centre of the alleyway to support her baricade, a new fence this year and whatever the council are going to charge her for all the re-tarmacing and the digger to rip out her fence post! I’m sure it would have been cheaper to pay to have it done legally you know…..
Anyway enough gloating! Aprilia declared it a baking day after the excitement of seeing a real live Scoop so we made some biscuits that she could use cutters with (as opposed to our normal Snickerdoodles which you can’t really cut into shapes!) and a big Victoria sponge which is going to be frosted with the family fave gooey choc frosting (no calories there then!) The bics are very tastey but stuck to the baking tray which serves me right for not covering it with baking parchment, the cake is cooling in the tin and smells wonderous. I’m told I mustn’t eat any until it’s frosted - she spoils all my fun!
I declared it warm enough to lounge in the hammock whilst she wombled off to play but just to make me feel less guilty about lounging, I settled down with Faust for some study time. I love having my set texts on tape! I swung comfortably listening to it being read whilst I followed it in the book and was really enjoying it until Aprilia decided to sneak up on me and nearly tipped me out!
That brought us to tea time and getting ready for bed time. Now, I suspect this is a regular trick in home ed children…. I said "bed time" and she said "but mummy, we haven’t done puzzles today!" which was true. So she took great delight in insisting on doing extra pages in her books including some reasonable copy work in order to delay the inevitable. Then she wanted to read but wobbled over 5 lines of text on a page… so I chopped the book up (oh the delights of print off yourself reading books!!) into single lines and she read it no trouble. Then, as Duke was out, she wanted an extra chapter of Roman Mystery (to add to the two she had had in the morning - did I mention how good those books are?) as a bedtime story.
And now I’m going to finish off a bit more Faust (not in the hammock though, it’s a bit chilly now) and try for an early night. Working nights this weekend so normal rules about not expecting sense from me apply (and any commetns about not getting sense the rest of the time will be ignored!) And I’m due on, I think, just to make me even more irrational! Better pack the mooncup in my kitbag.
