new kitchen blues

Duke spotted a kitchen being freecycled the other day so baggsied it and went to collect it tonight.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful, it will be lovely I’m sure but OMG!!!!  There’s loads of it, it’s totally filled up all the space in the garage and it has a hob with it (but no oven) so of course now we "need" a seperate oven to fit in the relevent slot rather than carrying on with the oven that tried to gas us the other year and Duke needs to find a weekend or two (preferable 2 consecutive weekends!!!) to fit it all in once we have worked out how (because of course it’s not cut to fit our kitchen, it was a proper designer made kitchen for a different house…..) and whilst we are at it we may as well get that combi boiler fitted that we were given ages ago thus freeing up the space that our huge stone age boiler currently takes.  Sob, I don’t do change….  I don’t do not being able to do baking therapy….I really don’t do having my bedroom full of everything that should be in my kitchen as well as all the clutter that’s already in here…. acn I come and live with someone whilst it all happens please ;-)

Educationally speaking, Aprilia wobbled through some puzzles then retired to the sofa this morning to mope.  I got out the picture flash cards and she promptly read (in the MOntessori 3 stage lesson style of "can you read this…. can you find me that…..") roughly 2/3 of the first set before she realised I’d sneaked in some extra brainwork!  So reading is grinding slowly on in that way that it does until the now  famed "Raspberry moment" when I can kick back and leave her to read her **** fairy books to herself.

She recovered enough to do a mass collage/painting whilst I read to her.  It was Edward the Confessor today, I’ll admit this latest section of Our Island Story is a bit dry, this king took over from that king and was pretty good but then he died and the next one was rubbish…. repeat several times.  But we are heading for 1066 and all that so I’m hoping for a bit more interest again soon.  It has been interesting for me to read though, never having had any idea where Romans, SAxons, Angle, Vikings and the rest all fit together it’s making sense of a lot of the history I had thrown at me at school.  Definitely want Story of the World now to get a perspective on the rest of the world.  Maybe next year?

Last night we had more nocturnal noises in the form of Duke’s phone which rang in the wee small hours.  The local A&E have somehow got his number as a back-up to the number of the ambi company he works for and, as the normal number was engaged, they phoned Duke to arrange a pick up.  We were NOT amused!  The did it again this evening so he’s turning the phone off tonight as he’s up early tomorrow to be a Presiding Officer for our local election.  He’s there from 6AM to 10PM so he really does not need A&E disturbing his beauty sleep!

I could get used to this!

Just got TMA 2 back.  I really wobbled over this as I’d never analysed a picture before and was really reliant on some stuff that someone PM-ed that they had got from a different course (A103, the one that Kirsty battled with) as this course seemed to assume you already knew it all.  I’ll admit to expecting a pass and to reconcile myself to not doing the painting option in the exam.

I got 80% and a lovely pat on the head for perceptive analysis of the piece (which I think means that I used my head rather than cobbling together stock phrases!)  So I’m going to nail down TMA 3 this week and head on up to new things!
