"gardening gloves are much more useful on your hands than on the shelf"
I’ve done huge ammounts of gardening for the last 2 days. I feel good in that sort of fresh air, hard work and sense of acheivement sort of way. Except for the nasty holes in my fingers where the soil got into my eczema and took all the tops of the little bubbly bits I get
Very sore and very hard to get clean without making them more sore! Ah well, the bean dome is up and ready for my runners although I hear nasty weather is forcast so I may fetch them back inside! I got the dome up in record time and with only one wobbly moment so give me a few more years and I’ll have really cracked it
Last year’s compost is dug out and spread about, the bokashi-ed kitchen scraps seemed to have made a huge difference to the quality of the compost, loads better rotted down than in previous years although the smell was different - not nasty, just differnt. The square beds are dug over but need a bit of topping up as they are now a good 6" lower than when I installed them 2 years ago (and yes, I know I am meant to top up the compost in them every year but this is me we are talking about! and anyway, they need more vermiculite, it’s all breaking down nicely and working into the native clay so more is required!) All I need to do now is decide what we want to grow, hunt down all the seeds (I know I have strawberry popcorn somewhere!) and get to it.
In other news, Duke’s paycheque for his second job was made of rubber which added to the cock up with the Red Cross not paying me means that I am oh so glad that I’ve been stingey for a while and we have a good buffer. Also makes me glad I forgot to book Kessingland and buy the new hammock that we NEED before summer! Life would be so boring if it all went the way it was meant to now wouldn’t it…
