Spin Doctor

I was woken up at 4 AM by the Snore Monster, finally gave up and got up at 5, had a cuppa and setttled down on the sofa.  Was just drifting off as the heating thundered into life at 6 am and then at 7 there was deepest distressed wailing from Aprilia - her mouth hurts wehere she bit huge chunks out of it before the numbness wore off after the dentist.  Now I am downstairs, Duke is upstairs, guess who got to her first?  Well, not much of a contest I guess as he didn’t even get out of bed but there you go.

Right, lets get some spin going should we?  Hmmmm, I woke with the first beams of the sun and enjoyed some quiet solitude with a refreshing drink.  A mere hour later I was reminded of how blessed I am to be living in a home with heating and also to be reminded that it’s time it was switched off as the morning was already comfortably warm.  I spent time holding my precious child who is suffering some discomfort after dental work that may prevent her from losing 2 teeth and I reflect that I am indeed fortunate both to have a fit and healthy child and that we live in a country where children’s teeth are fixed free saving them from the constant gnawing pain of decay.

Moving on…. having convinced her that it was still sleep time (oh yeah, I am a BAD moma!!) she settled back down for another  hour (phew!) and I slumped back to my own bed then realised that my pillows were still on the sofa and grabbed a stray cuddly toy in thier place.  Duke grunted "happy aniversary, sorry, forgot to get a card" and we both had a bit extra sleep before finally  crawling put of bed just past 8, making pancakes and planning the day whilst scoffing them once totally saturated with  various types of sugar (honey, syrup, toffee sauce, choclate sauce….)

No, not perky enough, let’s try this….  I soothed my child back to sleep and elected to spend some quiet time with my husband.  We wished each other a happy aniversary and agreed that flimsy bits of card were a waste of the Earth’s valuable resources and our thoughts could better be conveyed by our spending quality time in each other’s company.  We arose a little while later to our family’s traditional family breakfast of fresh pancakes with a variety of flavourful toppings.  We carefully planned an enjoyable and eventful day to celebrate our life as a family.

First on the list was a replacement car booster seat for Aprilia as her’s was looking very second hand and in fact was recently pointed out that the seatbelt didn’t actually sit properly in it (which to my shame I had never noticed, it was bought and fitted for Duke’s car not mine  )  Mothercare did us proud with one taht actually sits her up a good inch or two higher than the old one, channels the belt much, much better and has more padding - result!  Then we browsed PCWorld with Duke and weighed up tablet PCs vs the Samsung Q1 (ultra teeny tablet PC thingie that looks really cool but actually when you get a good look at it really isn’t up for much) as I will hopefully be getting funded for a laptop by the OU some time this year and wanted to be able to ask for specifics!

You know, I don’t think that needs any spin does it?  Ah, much better.

Then on to the main event… 10 pin bowling.  Great fun but oh, hve you any idea how humiliating it is to be whupped by not only your husband (I used to be able to beat him once upon a time!) but also by your SIX YEAR OLD!!!!   Then it was a "romatic dinner for 3" at Pizza Hut with enough elft overs for lunch tomorrow for me and him.     Well, there’s 2 whole paragraphs with no need for spin, on a roll now!

Then for some unknown reason a trip to town was instigated.  Now, lets get something straight here, town is somewhere I go when I need something and can’t get it locally.  It’s not recreational, it’s not fun, it’s just there when i need it.  This is a fairly well known fact in the household.  Town also means pestering - "can we go in the ELC mummeeeee"  "Mummeeeee, tehre’s the dressing up shop" - and I have a very low tolerance to pestering I’m afraid.  Hence by the time we had wandered aimlessly round for a bit, nearly had to drag her out of the dressing up shop as she was doing the "I WANT THAT" bit even though she was told before she went in that nothing was bing bought I was simmering slowly to the boil.  But I made it.  Just.

Okay, now how to spin this one….  In my role as good submissive wife I submitted to my husband’s wish to visit the local town (oi!  stop giggling, I’m doing my best ehre!) and admired the eclectic blend of modern and historic architechture whilst examining the multitude of goods on offer there.  I briefly needed to discipline my normally well mannered child when she momentarily lapsed into a less than seemly attitude towards worldly goods.  I conducted this with the dignity and poise expected of a good wife and mother and hence a scene was diverted and normal conduct restored.

Aprilia slumped on the sofa in tired and tearful mode onec we got home and needed Calpol and chocolate spread on the softest of the soft white roll to restore her to herself.  Poor kid, there can’t be much that’s worse than being hungry, tired, 6 and not being able to stuff the food in fast enough because your mouth is so sore :-(    I promptly nodded off in teh chair (gee, I know how to party hard don’t i!) and Duke went to check his e-mails to find that the crook who sold him duff goods on E-bay hasn’t yet refunded him despite Royal Mail having the goods recorded as being recieved yesterday.  Saying "told you not to send them til he paid" didn’t seem terribly apropriate somehow.

Anyhow, a mixed day really, bit like the 10 years we were celebrating, but not bad, not bad at all.
