T-Bird Anni Rides Again

full circle

some years ago I flippantly stated taht our entire educational activity centred round the craft cupboard.  We drifted away from that into a sort of semi-formalised, very laid back sort of Sonlight-y flavoured style and have loved it.  However this week we have come full circle and are back at the craft cupboard.  And I REALLY I love it.  She has spent today drifting between the TV and her project which is to paint red noses and various countrys flags to decorate teh house with.  We have talked about where the flags should be on our Sonlight map, where the shoes she put in the Shoe Biz bin at Clarks are going (sorted, sold in African countries very cheaply then the money raised going to fund projects in Malawi for orphaned children so each pair benefits 2 people!) and why I always get the FairTrade chocolate spread not the cheaper Asda one (seeing as everything else is SmartPrice it does stand out!)

We also flew her kite on the front lawn as it was good and blowy today, pegged out loads of washing to dry which made such a lovely change from having it draped round the house and did the week’s shopping.

I also found time (what with not doing any reading etc with her) to make an attempt at the next TMA for my course having found some notes on the OU forums on how to discuss a painting.  Only another 1,000 words to go  but as I’ve only jotted notes I think I can manage ;-)

I really think that just now she NEEDS this space.  She had a few days last week just gawping dazed at the TV all day but she’s obviously "recovered" from whatever sparked that and now the TV is back to being a useful sort of edutainment tool again and she is being so creative and her skills are developing so fast that it makes me feel very priveleged to be there watching it happen rather than seeing it trodden down in a system that says "no dear, art is tomorrow, sit down, it’s time for the Literacy Hour"
