sight word cards

Okay, I know, phonics is best, phonics is the holy grail of reading, phonics is…. just not working.  Sight words have got down right boring recently, little slips of card with dull little words, even I’m bored with it all!

So… I’m toying with getting these once the Red Cross deign to pay me I’ve got the free download letter writing thing produced by this company and it’s good.  I could download the sight words (but not the summery sheets) from the same place but actually I suspect that even allowing for postal charges it’s as cheap and much, much easier to get them sent than to pay a few cents less and have to mess about printing them, trimming them etc.

What is it they say?  a home schooler and her money are easily parted?  Hmmm, not hit that mythical £40 a week yet though have I emoticon

busy, happy girlies

I like days like today!  Any day that starts with "wow, how cool" from Aprilia’s bedroom is off to a good start!  I’d changed the background on her PC, and given her the choice of a few more too.  Then I set her up with Study Dog (she’s back on level 1 reminding herself how it all works and generally enjoying being able to do something literacy related without too much trauma) and left her to it!

Once she was all computered out we moved onto a bit of science, well, actually quite a lot of very good investigations led very much by her based round the first few pages of Usbourne’s Science Activities book 2 but going further by way of "what if we change this a bit and try doing it this way"

Then her latest Magic Key comic arrived and we collapsed to look at it in tired heaps on the sofa then watched Muppet Treasure Island!  I’m sure that must have some educational value???

She also did some lovely Fimo-ing, a bit of violin, a bit of stuff from the MK comic and a bit of "helping in the garden"  And she booted me upstairs to "do your puzzles or whatever mummy"  So off I dutifully went to study for a bit.  Facinating stuff I’m doing, looking at Napoleon at the mo and how the geography of Europe changed with every passing whim of it’s leaders (I always sort of assumed that the countries were always, well, pretty much as they are now with the obvious exceptions of the former USSR and satalites..)

She is now in bed with her LeapPad twittering along with it and I am ready to collapse once more on the sofa!
