muttering ’bout Dora again
I really thought I’d solved the Dora not working troubles, learned loads about Linux on the way and… even though I’ve convinced the CD/DVD drive that it’s name is D the disc still won’t play. So I’m officially sulking and have put a link to Nick Jr on her home page instead so she can play Dora there and several other fun games too…. Thanks to Meg at GNMParents for the tip!
Other than that today we did stacks of maths, a few pages of Starter Stile Phonics (really must get the maths books for that!) and even coaxed her into reading to me. Still all angst ridden with the reading, part of me wants to say keep pushing little and often and the practice will pay off eventually, part of me can’t face the thought of playing snap with Dolch words every day for the next 10 years and the rebellious part of me says sod it, she’ll read when she finds something that the desperately WANTS to read won’t she?
Of course all the messing with Dora and so on was basically as a means of avoiding putting my OU essay to bed wsn’t it…. so now you know why I made sure I was a good month ahead at the start of the course…. I know me well enough to know that by the end of it I’ll be scrabbling to make up time!

We basically gave SB Explode the Code and let her get on with it for a year or whatever, until she realized that she could some words in books.

well, that’s not far off what we are doing really but with differnt puzzle books (she didn’t fall for ExtC - much prefers some of the other ones) but still I’m angst ridden, probably just because I sort of expect her to have some of my troubles and partly because Mother is just waiting to point out our failure and how she will be so disadvantaged when the LEA decide we aren’t up to home edding and she’s not reading as well as all the other little darlings at school (rolls eyes…)
