T-Bird Anni Rides Again

January 10, 2007

we got wet!

to celebrate the first day it hasn’t been either raining or really grey we headed to the park this morning.  Was very pleasant (if "fresh")  until we suddenly spotted a really bright rainbow set against some absolutely black as night clouds…. which were of course headed straight at us!!!  2 minutes later we were under a deluge and by the time we were home we were both soaked to the skin.  Never mind, it was good to be outside even if only briefly!

Started the next Little house book today, I have to say if *I* were Laura’s Ma I’d have a lot to say about teh way Pa keeps uprooting the family and moving every few years…. Maybe I wouldn’t be such a good Prairie Muffin after all emoticon

Also doing a bit about maps using a children’s atlas, so we looked at the continents adn the 7 seas which she insisted on counting and telling me there were 8 (the Pacific is labeled on both sides of the map you see…)  Cue grabbing the light up globe, plugging it in and showing her how the map related to the globe!  I love those lightbulb moments!

After that she decided to play in her room.  So we played various games with C-rods and dolch words for several hours and I declared that she had been thoroughly educated for the day ;-)

As a slight aside, and in the hopes I won’t forget the recipe again….

Quick microwave sponge pud

Put a good dollop of jam or syrup in the bottom of a 2 pint bowl

mix together
6 T plain flour
6 T sugar (I used normal sugar, no need for caster)
6 T decent quality marg (buttery flavour is nice!)
1 tsp baking powder
then add
2 eggs
dump the lot on top of the jam or syrup and nuke for 3-4 mins, the top will dry out and the sides will come away from the bowl when it’s done.

I tried and failed with wholemeal flour (but it was SR wholemeal rather than plain so I didn’t put any baking powder in… hmmm, maybe need to try that again with a bit more alchemy!) so I can’t claim any sort of healthiness to this one but as a quick pud when tea has failed to fill the gap it’s wonderful and yah boo sucks to healthy ;-)
